Sheela na gig are intentionally grotesque female figures with enlarged vulvas. They’re found mostly on cathedrals and castles all over Europe and their purpose may have been to keep evil spirits and death away as is commonly believed to be the case with gargoyles.

Since you are buying a handmade piece it's likely that it will be made especially for you and we will need time to do this as we don't keep everything in constant stock. The wait times we have listed are to cover us during busy periods but we usually dispatch within 2 weeks of purchase.
Due to hallmarking laws in the UK and depending on the metal selected this piece may require hallmarking which we always do at Edinburgh assay office. This takes time and there is a minimum order charge from the assay office so we usually send these in batches once every week or fortnight, hence why we have a long wait time. If the order is urgent please let us know and we will see what we can do to get it to you quicker.
