Part of our "Ancient Rings of Scotland" collection.
Pictish ring in silver or bronze set with a garnet cabochon. This is based on the remains of a casting mould found during excavations at the royal Pictish fort of Dundurn, Perthshire. The casting mould was likely a clothes pin (which we also have available here: ) but I thought the shape and size would also make a very good ring, so have created both options. I have used the example of the ring found during excavations at Burghead to suppose the central boss would have made a setting for an oval shaped garnet cabochon.
Hand carved from wax and cast using the lost wax method. The basic size is UK O US 7.5 but if a different size is selected the ring will be resized and silver soldered.
Please note that bronze due to its nature will tarnish to a dull yellow/brown and turn your fingers green round about where the ring is worn. This can be avoided by coating it in wax and regular cleaning and polishing, and bronze rings shouldn't be worn as much as gold or silver.
If you'd like this ring in gold please message us, we'd be happy to work out a price.
Please note pieces in silver that weigh over 7.78 grams will require hallmarking by UK law, and we always have our gold pieces hallmarked. This will add roughly an additional 2-4 weeks to production time unless we have it in stock already. We normally use large hallmarks that stand out, always on the reverse of one sided pendants, the side of double sided pendants or the inside of rings or bracelets. If you would like them to be more subtle please let us know
