"Norrie's Law hoard is a 7th-century Pictish silver hoard discovered in c. 1819 at Balmain Farm, north of Largo Law, Upper Largo, Fife, Scotland. It was buried in a Bronze Age burrow. The hoard weighed about 28 lb in total, including a large number of silver coins which were sold and melted down.

Lady Durham in the 1830s donated several silver items from the hoard to the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland.

The characteristic symbols on some of the silver jewellery items are clearly reminiscent of the Pictish symbols otherwise only known from image stones."

The artefact which I based the pendant on is a mystery object, though it could be a piece from scale armour.

The plaques are lost wax cast with soldered fittings and are made to order. Both bronze and silver versions will have sterling silver ear hooks. The fully silver version will be hallmarked by the Edinburgh Assay Office.

White bronze will look like silver when highly polished but will tarnish much faster into a dull bronze colour. I suggest regular polishing to retain the silver appearance. The ear loop will still be sterling silver.

Please note that this is a made to order piece and we may not have it in stock at the time of purchase. Casting may take up to three weeks depending on the amount of orders we have at the time. Feel free to email us to check stock if the order is urgent.

If you want this in other materials such as gold please email me for a quote at caledonianforge@gmail.com We are always open to alter and change any of our pieces to suit your tastes. In the listing the piece might look darker than the finished piece. We artificially darken our silver pieces with liver of sulfur so that the details will show up in photographs but as standard the finished piece will be shiny and polished. If you'd prefer us to darken it then please let us know and we will happily do this for you.

This has been cast in high quality by Jewellery Casting Scotland and finished with a mixture of power tools and traditional hand tools like files and saws.

All our packaging is 100% paper. No plastic at all.

Due to the weight of this piece in any solid (not plated) precious metal by law it must be hallmarked. This will take roughly an additional 2-4 weeks. we normally use large hallmarks that stand out, always on the reverse of one sided pendants, the side of double sided pendants or the inside of rings or bracelets. If you would like them to be more subtle please let us know
