Hand made Luckenbooth brooch in sterling silver. The heart is wax cast from an original carving and the pin is hand forged from 925 sterling silver wire. This particular design is based on a brooch from Rosehearty which was donated to the National Museum of Scotland.

The Luckenbooth brooch is a traditional Scottish love token, often given as a betrothal or wedding brooch. It might be worn by a nursing mother as a charm to help her milk flow, and/or be pinned to a baby's clothing to protect it from harm. It was known as a witch-brooch by people using it to save children from the evil eye.

If you want this in other materials such as gold please email me for a quote at caledonianforge@gmail.com We are always open to alter and change any of our pieces to suit your tastes. In the listing the piece might look darker than the finished piece. We artificially darken our silver pieces with liver of sulfur so that the details will show up in photographs but as standard the finished piece will be shiny and polished. If you'd prefer us to darken it then please let us know and we will happily do this for you.

All our packaging is 100% paper. No plastic at all.

I will not hallmark the silver version in general and instead just stamp the reverse with my makers mark and .925 as it is below the legal requirement weight, but if you do desire full hallmarking from Edinburgh Assay office then please purchase the service HERE. This service will take up to an additional two weeks. - Gold will be hallmarked as standard. Sometimes we will already have a piece in stock and hallmarked, if you don't want this please let us know.
