Sheela na gig are intentionally grotesque female figures with enlarged vulvas. They’re found mostly on cathedrals and castles all over Europe and their purpose may have been to keep evil spirits and death away as is commonly believed to be the case with gargoyles.
Due to hallmarking laws in the UK this piece, if the silver option is chosen, will require hallmarking which we always do at Edinburgh assay office. This takes time and there is a minimum order charge from the assay office so we usually send these in batches once every week or fortnight, hence why we have a long wait time. If the order is urgent please let us know and we will see what we can do to get it to you quicker.
Available with a choice of waxed cotton cord or leather cord. If you want this in other materials just ask! We are always open to alter and change any of our pieces.
